Introduction & Background:
Games studies is an emergent academic field that has continued to grow in scholarly interest. The interdisciplinary nature of game studies has invited numerous approaches to the study of video games spanning pedagogical, philosophical, sociocultural, and material perspectives. These diverse perspectives also allow us to consider how games function as both texts and processes in contemporary game studies research. This public lecture will continue to investigate the myriad ways games are analyzed by introducing current postgraduate research projects in the Cultural Studies Department to showcase the new approaches that scholarship on games is taking, and what the implications of these new directions and areas of focus are in the broader field of game studies.
