How are Anglophone Asian and Asian-diasporic poets changing the English language, English poetics, and the English literary tradition? How are these poets’ works writing to and from the centers of British colonialism and American imperialism? What are the consequences for contemporary readers of Anglophone poetry, and for writers coming up in the next generation? Join us as eight internationally renowned poets from the U.K., United States, Hong Kong, Singapore, and the Philippines discuss the cultural, literary, and linguistic impacts of Asian and Asian-diasporic poetry on contemporary global Anglophone literature in conversation with poet-scholar Collier Nogues (CUHK) and scholar Dorothy Wang (Williams College, USA). Across three days, poets will share their work in public readings, panel discussions, and creative workshops, all free and open to the public. The symposium will showcase a diverse array of poetic styles and approaches, offering audiences a unique opportunity to take part in the interplay of ideas and engage in dialogue at an intimate scale.
