Introduction

✂️ A zine is a small handmade booklet. It is a crucial component of DIY-culture (Do It Yourself). Zines are self-published, small circulation, non-commercial scraps of paper that can be turned into fun.

If you have never dared making a zine yourself, never heard of it, or maybe if you have been a long-time zinesters (zine makers), then this workshop is for you! No experience or any skills needed, and we will be exploring our imaginations and go on a creative journey together. Focusing on zines as queer and decolonizing tools, this workshop is all about crafting connections and expression.

The (in-person) workshop

•           Zine introduction with examples

•           Make your own zine

•           Get to know other zines(ters)

•           Sharing session (voluntary)

What do you need to bring?

•           Nothing! Zines are all about accessibility and creativity.

•           We will provide material, but feel free to bring your own!

•           Basic knowledge of English

This workshop is part of research for the dissertation On Connection: the Transpacific Entanglements of Queer/ing Zines by Kika W. L. van Robays at the Department of Cultural and Religious Studies, CUHK.

For those who are not able to join this workshop, an online workshop will follow.
