Abstract:

Buddhism and Christianity are among the most “globalized” religions, and their encounter in modern China contributed to the globalization of Chinese Buddhism as well as the “glocalization” of Christian theology.  In the perspective of globalization of culture, the encounter provides some examples illustrating the model of cultural “hybridization” or “creolization”, rather than merely a showcase of the “clash of civilizations” model.   The story of this encounter may shed light on the contemporary question concerning the globalization of Chinese culture.
