Synopsis: Filmed over the course of five years in cities across China, A Young Patriot chronicles the disillusionment of a post-90s idealist as he transitions into adulthood, witnessing the realities and contradictions of his so-called nation and the world beyond. Winner of the Documentary Film Competition Jury Prize at the 39th Hong Kong International Film Festival.

About the Director: Shaanxi native Du Haibin is the creator of critically acclaimed and award-winning documentaries, including 1428 (2009), Umbrella 《傘》(2007), and Along the Railway 《鐵路沿線》(2001).

 

This event is organized by the M.A. in Visual Culture Studies programme and the Department of Cultural and Religious Studies at CUHK, the Centre for Cultural Studies, and CNEX Foundation Ltd.
